Paranormal coming-of-age fantasy novel offers nuanced view of growing up
On March 27, 2020, independent author Jake Nickens published "The Thin House," a paranormal fantasy novel for young adults set in rural Louisiana. At the start of the book, "Eleven-year-old Finn Anglin knows very little about his grandparents. In fact, he’s never met them. But when his mother drops him off outside their peculiar boarding house to spend the summer, Finn quickly discovers that Ezekiel and Eleanor Blacklock are not to be taken lightly," according to the synopsis. Finn is quiet, thoughtful and curious—a good stand-in for younger readers as he encounters new situations and bizarre characters. When asked about the impending release, Nickens said, "'I'm excited to introduce the characters that have been bumping around my head for the past few years." |
"The Thin House" is the first novel in a loosely-connected trilogy and is available for purchase on Amazon. In its first week on the market, "The Thin House" was ranked in the Top 100 Children's Scary Stories on Amazon.
